The game is inspired by the book "Menina de Asas" by writer Pablo Morenno from Rio Grande do Sul. The game was developed in Brazil by Druzina Content, and was the winner of the edital Narrativas Transmídias para Infância e Juventude de Curta-Metragem de Animação e Jogo Eletrônico of Ministério da Cultura in partnership with Ancine, though the brazilian Fundo Setorial do Audiovisual.
Luciana Druzina is the creator of the game, where she also works as a game designer and narrative designer. "Winged" is Druzina Content's first solo game (which already has others, such as SILO, in co-production with Petit Fabrik). Luciana made a point of having a team composed mostly of women, so in addition to Druzina Content's internal team, the production company had a partnership with Sorora Game Studio, a company formed by female developers.
Before arriving on platforms, the game was presented at events in Latin America, China, the USA, England, Japan and Russia, at events and markets such as DevCom, GDC, GamesCom, Maquinitas, Pixel Show, Tokyo Game Show, White Nights, among others.
